Hope

Ce matin, Patrick et Valentin sont partis à 6h00. Ils empruntent une voix parallèle à l’autoroute que le GPS leur indique mais au bout de 3-4kms, ils sont obligés de faire demi-tour.

L’échappatoire serait de traverser le fleuve Fraser, se jetant dans l’océan Pacifique. Mais ce pont n’est pas accessible pour les vélos et piétons. Après concertation, ils décident de traverser quand même ce pont ou les camions arrivent très vite, surtout que les véhicules ont tout juste la place de se croiser.

Après ce gros coup d’adrénaline, Patrick et Valentin arrivent à Hope au bout de 35kms, il est 10h00 du matin. « Hope est la porte d’entrée de l’intérieure de la province, La Colombie Britannique et se situe au carrefour de 4 routes principales ». Sur le retour vers Hope, Valentin a pu observer un animal, un ours peut être ?

Direction maintenant Yale dans la montagne, avec des pourcentages à 11%. Durant l’ascension, il y avait du grizzli dans l’air comme dirait Valentin ! Par précaution ils se sont donc muni de la bombe de poivre et du sifflet ! Ils vont rencontrer une route fermée car la rivière Kelowna semble être sortie de son lit cet hivers et a emporté une partie de la route. A cela ne tienne, ils traversent quand-même, 2 voyages un vélo un après l’autre, les sacoches ensuite. Sur le chemin, il rencontre une personne qui leur annonce qu’ils ne sont pas dans la bonne vallée.

Retour à la case départ, demi-tour, tout ce qui a été descendu doit être remonté. Nos aventuriers retournent donc à Hope, il est 17h30. Il est trop tard pour commencer une nouvelle ascension. Ils décident donc de trouver un camping et dormir sur place où il y a carrément des armoires fermées à clé pour y déposer la nourriture à cause des ours.

Après avoir fait 80Kms de vélo, ils se trouvent seulement à 35kms de leur point de départ.

Un peu déçus de leur journée, demain Patrick et Valentin seront à Kelowna ! à suivre les prochaines péripéties de nos aventuriers.

Patrick souhaitait aussi rendre un hommage à ancien collègue de travail, parti aujourd’hui, qu’il appréciait beaucoup et qui aimait beaucoup le vélo !

This morning Patrick and Valentine left at 6 am. They took a path parallel to the motorway, a path indicated by their GPS but after three or 4 km they had to turn back. The escape route would be to cross the river Fraser. But this bridge is not accessible to bikes or pedestrians. After discussing it, they decided to cross the bridge anyway, a bridge where lorries drive very fast and there is scarcely enough room for vehicles to go past each other.

After this huge dose of adrenaline, Patrick and Valentine arrived at Hope having pedalled for 35 km, it was at that point 10am. Hope is the entrance point to the province of British Columbia and lies at the crossing point for 4 principal arteries.

Now they head in the direction of Yale which is in the mountain and the slope gradient is 11%. They encountered a closed road though because the river Kelowna had overflowed and had taken part of the road with it. They crossed over anyway, they took the bikes over on the first trip and then took their baggage on the second trip. Afterwards, they continued their way and met a person who told them they were not in the right Valley.

Back to the starting point what went down had to go back up again!  Our adventurers returned to Hope at 5:30pm. It was too late to start a new Ascension, so they decided to look for a campsite and to sleep on spot. The cupboards are locked because of the bears who would otherwise steal the food.

Having done 80 km, they only found themselves 35 km further on from their departure point that morning. They were a little bit disappointed after their day but tomorrow Patrick and Valentine will be in Kelowna!  You will have to wait until tomorrow to find out what happens to our adventures next!

Patrick also wanted to remember today an ex-work colleague who died someone he appreciated very much and who loved cycling!
