Hope - Kelowna

Aujourd’hui, nos aventuriers ont décidé de ne pas faire l’étape. En effet, ils ont déjà à présent 2 jours de retard, le nombre de jour pour faire la traversée est déjà courte et les étapes sont denses et longues. Ils n’auront pas l’opportunité de rattraper ce retard.

Patrick et Valentin ont donc trouvé un chauffeur « Dan », qui les a emmenés à l’étape suivante « Kelowna ». Tout au long de la route, Patrick n’a pas tout compris de ce que leur racontait Dan, il parlait vite et sans trop articuler.

« Kelowna » est une ville balnéaire, au bord du lac « Okanagan ». En arrivant, Patrick avait l’impression d’être au bord du Lac de Garde en Italie.

Kelowna signifie en amérindien « grizzli femelle ». Le lac Okanagan est un lac glaciaire, profond et allongé. Sa superficie est de 351Km2, sa longueur est de 111Kms et sa largeur maximale est de 6,4kms.

Au-delà de la beauté de cet endroit, ce qui les a le plus surpris ce sont des barges sur laquelle se trouvent des maisons qui sont sur l’eau.

Ils se sont posés au camping « Bear Creek » qui signifie Ruisseau de l’ours. Il est entièrement clôturé avec des barbelés, certainement pour dissuader les ours de rentrer dans le camp.

Leur samaritain du jour est une samaritaine, elle s’appelle « Ashley ». Quand ils sont arrivés le camping était complet. Patrick lui a proposé de poser la toile de tente devant l’entrée ce qui n’était pas possible. Finalement, elle leur a donné la place d’une personne qui avait réservé mais qui n’était pas arrivé sous condition de repartir si la personne arrivait avant 23h. Elle a donc pas voulu qu’ils payent leur place.

On ne vous a pas encore parlé de leur organisation et de leur régime alimentaire pendant ce trip :

Alors pour le régime alimentaire, c’est pâte tous les jours, ça fait des sucres lents. Il en faut de l’énergie pour gravir ces montagnes.

Pour le reste de l’organisation, chacun a sa responsabilité. Valentin a en charge les courses, qu’il va payer avec la carte bleue et un soir sur 2 la vaisselle pour chacun. Et c’est Patrick en charge de la cuisson des pâtes.

Pour finir, Patrick et Valentin souhaitent remercier tous les gens qui leur ont envoyé des messages personnels d’encouragement. Ça leur fait chaud au cœur et ça les motive !

Today, our adventurers decided not to do the stage. In fact, at the moment, they are running two days late and the number of days to complete the crossing is already tight and the stages are difficult and long. They will not have the opportunity to catch up time wise.

Patrick and Valentine have therefore found a driver called Dan who brought them to the next stage Kelowna. On the road trip Patrick didn't really understand Dan very well because he spoke quickly and didn't articulate very well.

Kelowna is a balnearies town on the edge of Lake Okanagan.  On arrival, Patrick had the impression of being at the edge of Lake Garda in Italy. Kelowna means in American Indian female grizzly. Lake or Okanagan is a deep long glacier lake.  It has a Superficies of 351 km², it is 111 km long and its largest width 6.4 km.

What is more surprising than the beauty of the spots are the barges on which there are houses which are on the water.

 They stopped at a campsite called Bear Creek. It is surrounded with Barbwire most probably to keep the bears away from the campsite.

Their Samaritan of the day was called Ashley. When they arrived at the campsite it was full. Patrick proposed setting up the tent at the entrance to the campsite which wasn't possible. In the end, she gave them a spot which had been reserved by someone who had not turned up at this point, but the deal was if the person showed up by 11 pm then Patrick and Valentine would have to liberate the spot. She therefore didn't want Patrick and Valentine to pay for their spot.

We haven't told you about what they are eating up until now or how they are organising themselves:

So, food wise, they are eating pasta every day, which gives them the necessary carbohydrates. They need lots of energy to climb those mountains. For the remaining organisation each has his own responsibility. Valentine buys the shopping with the credit card and every second evening each takes turns to wash the dishes. Patrick takes care of cooking the pasta.
